Benefits of a government job
The pull of a government job is more than pay: a permanent post, regular allowances, leave, a provident fund and a pension after retirement. Below are the main rules under the 9th Pay Scale 2026, with sources under each.
Only the general rules are given here, from newspapers and government sources. Rules change often, benefits can differ in practice by service, organisation and post, and we may have something wrong. For the final word, check with the organisation, its recruitment rules and government orders.

Once confirmed after probation, you cannot be removed without the process set by law.
- Direct recruits first serve a probation; the post becomes permanent after training and satisfactory work. The probation period is stated in the appointment letter.
- After confirmation, major penalties such as removal or dismissal need disciplinary proceedings under the Government Service Act 2018, with a right of appeal.
Pay
The 9th National Pay Scale 2026 is in force from 1 July 2026: starting basic pay runs from Tk 20,000 (grade 20) to Tk 1,56,000 (grade 1).
- BCS entry (grade 9)
- Tk 44,000 basic
- Primary assistant teacher (grade 13)
- Tk 24,000 basic
- Full new pay
- From 1 July 2027
- The rise is paid in steps: Jul–Dec 2026 40% of the increase (grades 1–9) and 50% (grades 10–20); Jan–Jun 2027 70% and 75%; then in full.
- Basic pay rises every year with the annual increment.
- The allowances below come on top of basic pay, so take-home pay is higher than the basic.
The starting basic pay of every grade is in the exam guide's "Grades & pay" section.
