প্রশ্নটা prefer ক্রিয়ার সাথে কোন preposition বসে, তা যাচাই করছে। নিয়ম হলো: prefer A to B, মানে B-এর চেয়ে A বেশি পছন্দ করা।

তাই বাক্য হবে In the morning, I prefer coffee to tea, মানে সকালে আমি চায়ের চেয়ে কফি বেশি পছন্দ করি।

Prefer শব্দে তুলনার অর্থ থাকলেও এটা comparative degree নয়, তাই than বসে না। একই নিয়মে চলে superior to, inferior to, senior to, junior to, preferable to।

সবচেয়ে বড় ফাঁদ than। বাংলায় চেয়ে শুনে অনেকে than বসিয়ে দেন। তবে prefer-এর পরে দুটি to-infinitive থাকলে ব্যতিক্রম হয়, যেমন I prefer to walk rather than ride; সেখানে rather than লাগে।
