উক্তির ভেতরে Can you give me ... please, অর্থাৎ ভদ্র অনুরোধের প্রশ্ন। Narration এ বদলের সময় reporting verb said/told বদলে asked বা requested হয়, আর yes-no প্রশ্ন বলে যোগ হয় if বা whether।
Reporting verb অতীত কালে, তাই উক্তির can পিছিয়ে হয় could। সর্বনামও বদলায়: you হয় he, অর্থাৎ দোকানি; me হয় him, অর্থাৎ ছেলেটি।
